VA disability calculator figures out the amount of disability compensation based on service-connected disabilities. This calculator considers the severity of the disabilities and other factors to determine the monthly compensation amount.

What is VA?

VA is a United States Department of Veterans Affairs that refers to the compensation and benefits given by veterans with disabilities related to their military service.

The VA Disability Calculator determines disability compensation rates, healthcare, pension, and other advantages to eligible candidates depending on the extent of their service-related disabilities.

VA Disability Formulas:

The formula is based on the type of disability. The below equation is useable when the number of disabilities exceeds 2.

Lower disability percentage value:

\(\ CDIS = (100 \ \ – \ \ DIS\%_{(greatest)}\ \times \dfrac{DIS\%_{(2nd\ greatest)}}{100})\)

Where:

  • CDIS = Cumulative disability
  • DIS% greatest = Greatest recorded disability
  • DIS2% greatest = 2nd greatest disability percentage

Suppose 30%, 60%, 10% are the set of disabilities you need to select 60%

Highest disability percentage value:

\(\ CDIS_2 =\ (100 – \ CDIS) \times \dfrac{DIS\%_{(3rd\ greatest)}}{{100}}\)

Where:

  • CDIS2 = Cumulative disability for 2.
  • DIS% 3greatest = 3rd Greatest disability recorded

Suppose, the set is 30%, 60%, and 10%, you need to choose 10%.

How Does the VA Rate Disabilities?

For individuals, the VA disability rates change for:

  • For military members who got ill or hurt during service
  • For veterans whose health issues were made worse during job
  • Veterans with mental issues that started during, before, or after service including PTSD.

The VA benefit calculator offers the exact monetary benefits you can get with a VA claim. Manually, below values can be helpful.

– For Partner Receiving Aid and Attendance:

30% 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% 90% 100%
$48 $64 $81 $96 $113 $129 $145 $160.89

– For Every Extra Child Under 18 Years Old:

30% 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% 90% 100%
$26 $34 $43 $52 $61 $69 $78 $87.17

– For Every Extra Child Over 18 Enrolled In Educational Program:

30% 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% 90% 100%
$84 $112 $140 $168 $197 $225 $253 $281.57

How is Combined VA Disability Rating Calculated?

Example:

A veteran with a 50% disability rating may receive $905.04 per month, while a veteran with a 70% rating could receive $1,444.71.

The VA uses a specific formula to determine disability compensation, taking into account the severity of service-connected conditions.

Solution:

For a veteran with a 50% disability rating:

\(\ Compensation = \ Base\ Compensation \times (\dfrac{Percentage\ Rating }{100}) \)

For a veteran with a 70% disability rating:

Using the VA Disability Compensation rates, where the Base Compensation for a veteran without dependents is $1,810.68, let’s calculate the monthly compensation:

For a 50% disability rating:

\(\text{Compensation} = $1,810.68 \times \left( \frac{50}{100} \right) = $905.34 \)

The veteran with a 50% disability rating would receive approximately $905.34 per month

For a 70% disability rating:

\( \text{Compensation} = $1,810.68 \times \left( \frac{70}{100} \right) = $1,267.47 \)

The veteran with a 70% disability rating would receive around $1,267.47 per month.
