The GPM calculator calculates the flow rate in gallons per minute, gallons per hour, and in a number of Metric and British Imperial units.

What is GPM?

GPM is a unit of flow rate of liquids and it stands for "Gallons per Minute". GPM is used to specify how fast a liquid moves through pipes, pumps etc. The "Gallons per Minute" can either be the US liquid gallon or the  British imperial gallon.

The US and British gallons are:

US Gallons = 3.785 liters

British Imperial Gallon = 4.546 liters

How to Calculate Gallons per Minute?

GPM is a measure of the volumetric flow rate of a liquid, most often water is taken as liquid. Our water GPM calculator includes multiple units and converts the LPM to GPM, GPM to LPM, gallons per hour to gallons per minute, and much more.

To calculate gallons per minute, fill a container with one gallon in one minute and divide it by 60. If you want to fill the container in 10 seconds. Then the  GPM measurement is 6 GPM (60/10 seconds = 6 GPM).

The GPM formula is:

GPM = Volume/ Time

To measure the gallons per minute follow the steps below:

  • Get a container to keep a record of how many seconds it takes to fill the container with water.
  • Convert the volume of water in a container to gallons
  • Divide the volume by the seconds to calculate the gallons per second
  • Multiply by 60 to calculate gallons per minute

For the conversion of liter per min to GPM, you only need to enter two variables in the gallon to GPM calculator.

FAQs:

How to Convert LPM to GPM?

For converting the Liter per Minute to Gallon per Minute, use the following conversion: 1 Liter per Minute = 0.264172052 US Gallons per Minute.

How Many Gallons per Minute does a Shower Use?

Showering usually uses the third greatest water use in a normal home, after the toilets and washing clothes. It is estimated that the average American shower flow rate is 2.1 gallons per minute.

What is the Average Gallons per Minute Demand of a Home?

5 GPM is a fair estimate of peak demand for the average household. Therefore, most households are able to meet their peak and daily water demands by consistently producing 5 GPM.
