What is Julian's Date?

In 1582 the Gregorian calendar that is used today, replaced the Julian calendar to improve the alignment of calendar dates with the equinoxes and solstices. Julius Caesar invented the Julian calendar today in 46 B.C. as a reform of the Roman republican calendar. This calendar consists of twelve months based on a solar year.

How to Calculate Julian’s Date?

A Julian calendar converter translates a Gregorian calendar date (like today's date) into a Julian day today, a continuous count of days since a specific historical date.

To calculate the Julian date assume today's date as November 08, 2024, at 00:00 (midnight).

Break Down the Date:

Year (Y) = 2024
Month (M) = 11 (November)
Day (D) = 8

Calculate the B Term:

For the year 2024:

B = 2024/400 - 2024/100 + 2024/4

B = [5.06] − [20.24] + [506]

B = 5 − 20 + 506 = 491

Apply the Julian Date Formula:

JD = [365.25 × (2024 + 4716)] + [30.6001 × (11 + 1)] + 8 + 491 − 1524.5

2460810 + 367.2012 + 8 = 2460185.2012

Adding B = 491
