How easy was it to use our calculator? Did you face any problem, tell us!

The bowling score calculator will calculate the score you get in each frame by throwing a ball. Simply enter the scores made in both attempts in a single frame and the tool will quickly figure out the points you got in the frame. You can also save results as bowling score sheets which is a plus as well.

Bowling Score Rules:

Here you are bound to obey certain rules to figure out your cumulative score for a complete game consisting of 10 frames:

Strike:

If you knock down all 10 pins in the first ball roll throw of any frame, then it is a strike. In our bowling score calculator, it is symbolized as X.

Spare:

If you knock down all 10 pins in the two successive throws in a frame, you get a spare. It is denoted as / in the bowling scorer.

10th Frame:

The last frame in the game has slightly different rules which include:

  • You can avail yourself an opportunity to make two extra throws in the 10th frame if you hit a strike in your first attempt
  • Likewise, hitting a spare in the first two successive throws in the 10th frame will let you throw a 3rd ball as well
  • If your first couple of attempts score zero, then the game ends at the instant

Open Frame:

An open frame is considered when you do not knock down all 10 pins of a frame in both throws.

Score Calculations:

For example, you as a player play a bowling game and your bowling scorecard is as under:

Frame 1 Frame 2 Frame 3 Frame 4 Frame 5 Frame 6 Frame 7 Frame 8 Frame 9 Frame 10 HDCP Max Score
1 3 4 1 X 0 1 5 4 X 4 5 9 / 5 0 X X X 108 108
4 9 20 21 30 49 58 73 78 108

Calculations:

Frame 1:

Pins knocked down in 1st throw = 1
Pins knocked down in 2nd throw = 3
Total score = 1+3 = 4

Frame 2:

Pins knocked down in 1st throw = 4
Pins knocked down in 2nd throw = 1
Total score = Frame 1 Score + Frame 2 Score
Total score = 4 + 4 + 1 = 9

Frame 3:

Strike!

The score of this frame depends upon the score of the next & previous frame. So first check the frame 4 score.

Total score = Frame 4 Score + Frame 2 Score + Frame 3 Score
Total score = 1 + 9 + 10 = 20

Frame 4:

Pins knocked down in 1st throw = 0
Pins knocked down in 2nd throw = 1
Total score = Frame 3 Score + Frame 4 Score
Total score = 20 + 0 + 1 = 21

Frame 5:

Pins knocked down in 1st throw = 5
Pins knocked down in 2nd throw = 4
Total score = Frame 4 Score + Frame 5 Score
Total score = 21 + 5 + 4 = 30

Frame 6:

Strike!

The score of this frame depends upon the score of the next & previous frame. So first check the frame 7 score.

Total score = Frame 5 Score + Frame 7 Score + Frame 6 Score
Total score = 30 + 10 + 4 + 5 = 49

Frame 7:

Pins knocked down in 1st throw = 4
Pins knocked down in 2nd throw = 5
Total score = Frame 6 Score + Frame 7 Score
Total score = 49 + 4 + 5 = 58

Frame 8:

Spare!

Pins knocked down in 1st throw = 9
Pins knocked down in 2nd throw = 1
Total score = Frame 7 Score + Frame 9 Score + Frame 8 Score

Frame 9:

Pins knocked down in 1st throw = 5
Pins knocked down in 2nd throw = 0
Total score = Frame 8 Score + Frame 9 Score
Total Score = 73 + 5 + 0 = 78

Frame 10:

3 Strikes Again!

Total score = Frame 9 Score + 3 Strikes Score
Total score = 78 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 108

HDCP:

HDCP = 108

Maximum Score:

Max Score = 108
